Welcome to the 2mm Walker Sculpting Page

While working on some walkers for my 2mm sci-fi range I thought I'd try making a three legged walker for 2mm scale gaming. It never occured to me that there might not actually be any alien invasion 2mm miniature gaming. But when did something like that ever stop me!

So out came the metal tubing and I started to fashion the first walker. Taking influences from my 10mm three legged walker I went with a round body with the legs underneath. More like a camera tripod than a spider type walker.

So I made the legs in a simple round tube piston style and because of the trouble I had with the knee joints on the 10mm walker I went for a wire armature through the leg tubes and bent the wire to form the knee joint angle.

To cover up the wire I then applied some green stuff and indented it so it looked like modern machinery that has a rubber sheath placed over any joints to protect it from the elements.

You can see the walker at an early stage in Pic 1 along side an even smaller walker attempt. The walker on the far left is from Ground Zero Games and included to show the scale. The GZG miniature is 15mm high.

One of the other parts of the design that I really wanted was the idea of the pilot sitting in a hood. So I went with two flat round windows and built over it a hood like cover.

Pic 2 was done as a bit of a joke. While taking pictures of the work in progress the best lighting was to put the miniature on my work room window sil. It was a bright sunny day so I took a picture of the walker from below and added some scenery. The sky is real and the picture came out looking very realistic. The picture also shows how the legs are connected under the body.

I then set about making some more walkers to go with the three legged version. Pic 3 shows the completed version of the there legged walker and the in progress versions of a four legged walker and a five legged handling machine.
I have also added several plates with rivet holes over the hood to make it look like it could slide back to reveal the pilot. The main three legged walker stands at 33mm.

I also thought I'd try and make some really tiny walkers. Pic 4 shows my first attempt and yes I know it doesn't look menacing it looks cute....
Well I did manage to recreate the three 2mm scale walkers in this even smaller size. The three legged walker ended up 12mm tall.

To round off the aliens I also put together some models of crashed alien capsules. Creating a realistic scar in the earth and pile of dirt where the capsule comes to rest was fairly difficult.
