Mini Germ Sculpting Info Page

On this page I thought I'd give more details about the modeling materials that I use.

Green Stuff
Probably the most used sculpting material it either comes in Strip form or more recently as two separate parts. It's technical name is Kneadatite.

I use Green Stuff for organic style miniatures since it cures with more rounded edges and even when set has a rubbery feel to it.

Supplier:
Heresy Miniatures

Magic Sculpt
I discovered Magic Sculpt by accident. I was looking for a modeling material I could file down after it had cured. I've never really got on with Milliput and so thought i'd try this stuff called Magic Sculpt. Again it comes in two parts and as mentioned sets rock hard.

I use Magic Sculpt for making vehicles and weapon for miniatures.

Supplier:
EM4 Miniatures

Procreate
This is a new putty like Green Stuff but with properties to allow you to sculpt round organic looking pieces and hard straight edges by mixing the two part putty in different amounts.

I've only use Procreate a few times. Not sure about it yet, although being grey in colour does help see the detail on your sculpt better than Green Stuff..

Supplier:
Heresy Miniatures

Siligum
For a particular scuplt I found I needed to make several parts that were identical. Sculpting each one would have been hard to keep the same so I discovered a silicone putty that can be used to create temporary moulds to duplicate pieces.

You can see in the second picture how I use Siligum. In this case I use a robotic foot I had made and pressed the siligum round it. I then mixed up some Magic Sculpt and pressed it into the mould. Once it had set I just removed them from the mould.

Supplier:
You can get Siligum in any Arts and Craft type shop. I use Crafty Arts

Metal Tubing
For a lot of the Mechs and Robot walkers I used small pieces of metal tubing. These were very helpful for piston type legs for the tripods I have designed.

You can get tubing like this from model makers shops. I use 4D Model Shop
